Keynote Topic: Why Business Matters to God

After approximately twenty years in leadership at Seattle Pacific University, Jeff Van Duzer stepped into “retirement” in the summer of 2019.  Since retiring, he has continued to serve as a consultant to SPU, to teach as an adjunct and to write on a theology of business.  He also is active as a mentor, serves in leadership roles at his church, and has recently reinstated his law license with the goal of providing pro bono services to underserved populations. 

Prior to retirement, Jeff served as SPU’s Provost, as the Dean of the School of Business and Economics and as a Professor of Business Ethics and Business Law. During his tenure as Dean, InterVarsity Press released Jeff’s book “Why Business Matters to God.” Before coming to SPU, Jeff was a partner with the international law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine where he practiced for more than 20 years.  While at DWT, he served for nearly a decade on the firm’s Executive Committee and served as the Partner in Charge of the firm's largest office.

Topic: What Healthcare and Hunting Have in Common?

Steve and Kristi, married for 35 years, reside in Sturgeon Bay, WI, with their two grown children and three grandsons.

Steve founded We Care Senior Care in 1997, operating 15 franchises within the Home Instead system, providing non-medical in-home care for the elderly. With over 1200 employees, it's the largest among 600+ North American Home Instead groups. Steve also co-founded Wheelchair Whitetails in 2016, offering hunting experiences for individuals with disabilities on their 500+ acre property in northern WI.

In 2020, they partnered with Challenge The Outdoors to establish Peter’s Pond, a wheelchair-accessible fishing destination for people with disabilities, opening in summer 2024 in Shawano County. Steve is an investor in Eskala, a public benefit organization transforming banking for communities with limited resources in Central America. He's active in Halftime and No Regrets Ministries, and enjoys fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and is a retired mountaineer.

Additionally, Caleb serves as a leader in his local church, and is married with four kids.

    Currently serves as a RVP for Corporate Chaplains of America, managing four regions of chaplains serving across the western United States.

    Jeff enjoys helping organizations create and support cultures of care by placing chaplains and care coaches in companies. These chaplains build caring relationships with employees. Chaplains are trained to listen well and offer individualized support in times of crisis that include mental health concerns.
